To recognize AT&T as the 2014 City Year Ripple Award honoree and to thank AT&T for their contributions to youth and education in our community.
Body
WHEREAS, City Year is an education-focused, nonprofit organization that partners with public schools to help keep students in school and on track to graduate; and
WHEREAS, the City Year Ripple Award represents one of City Year's founding beliefs: that each person has the capacity to create ripples of hope, that spread and grow to effect change; and
WHEREAS, the 2014 Ripple Award honoree is AT&T. Through philanthropic initiatives and collaboration, AT&T and the AT&T Foundation support projects that create opportunities, make connections and address community needs where their employees and customers live; and
WHEREAS, recognizing that education is the key to success, AT&T is committed to supporting initiatives that encourage students to excel; and
WHEREAS, nationwide, AT&T has contributed nearly $1.2 million to help support City Year's year-round work in schools; and
WHEREAS, in addition to their financial contributions, AT&T participates in an innovative partnership with City Year, Communities in Schools and Johns Hopkins Talen Development Secondary. The partnership, "Diplomas Now," is designed to help turn around the nation's most challenged schools; and
WHEREAS, AT&T's contributions support students here in Columbus at Linden McKinley High School, as well as students in cities across the country; and
WHEREAS, AT&T's commitment to keeping students in school and on track to success makes them a deserving recipient of the Ripple Award; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council hereby recognizes AT&T as the 2014 City Year Ripple Award Honoree and thanks them for their commitment to youth and education in our community.
