Title
To honor and celebrate the Thiossane (pronounced cha- sahn)  West African Dance Company of the Thiossane Institute for honoring the City of Columbus with your performance on the 28th day of May, 2005.
Body
WHEREAS, Thiossane was founded in November 2000 for the purpose of bringing authentic West African culture representation to a variety of communities locally, nationally and internationally and to introduce the richness of the culture through dance and music; and
 
WHEREAS, the primary purpose of the Thiossane West African Dance Company is to preserve and present traditional West African Dance, Music and History by providing authentic performances and detailed instruction and to perpetuate its significance to future generations, while creating a lifestyle of physical and mental wellness; and  
 
WHEREAS, under the direction of Mr. Abdou Kounta, Music Director and Ms. Suzan Bradford- Kounta, Artistic Director, Thiossane has served over 1000 youth and adults in Columbus and surrounding suburbs as well as enhanced the global perception of university and college students; and
 
WHEREAS, Thiossane's directors and members study abroad in West Africa, biannually to present and preserve traditional dance and music and to share with Columbus the authenticity and significance of this art form.  These programs have proven to spark an interest in continued studies of dance and music that helps builds the student's self esteem and confidence; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That we do hereby honor and celebrate the Thiossane West African Dance Company of the Thiossane Institute for honoring the City of Columbus with your performance on the 28th day of May, 2005
