Explanation
APPLICANT: Sarah Zinn; 100 Landers Avenue; Columbus, OH 43207.
PROPOSED USE: Type A family child care home.
FAR SOUTH COLUMBUS AREA COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Approval
CITY DEPARTMENTS' RECOMMENDATION: Approval. The site consists of one parcel developed with a single-unit dwelling in the SR, Suburban Residential District. The requested Council variance will allow the existing dwelling to be used as a Type A family child care home. A Council variance is required because although the SR district allows Type B family child care homes for up to seven children and day care centers in conjunction with schools or religious facilities, it does not allow a Type A family child care home. A variance to reduce required parking spaces from three to one is included in this request. The site is located within the planning boundaries of the Scioto Southland Plan (2007), which recommends “Single Family Residential (4-6 du/acre)” land uses at this location. Since the primary use of the property will remain a single-unit dwelling, Staff has no objection to the requested Type A family child care home, which must also comply with Ohio Revised Code requirements.
