Explanation
BACKGROUND: The Department of Public Utilities, Division of Power and Water (Power) maintains the freeway lighting within the City of Columbus and requires traffic control services to provide single lane closures on the median lanes in both directions on the freeway system to allow for City employees to replace lighting equipment. Formal bids for traffic control services were solicited in the City Bulletin, SA002960, and one bid was received and opened by the Director of Public Utilities on July 16, 2008.
The bid has been evaluated and a recommendation has been made to award a contract to Paul Peterson Company, 950 Dublin Road, Columbus,, Ohio, based upon their responsive and responsible bid. The bid was based upon the cost per occurrence for weekday and weekend closures. It is requested that an amount of $91,840.00 be awarded for the first year of this contract beginning 10/1/2008 through 9/30/2009. Upon approval of Columbus City Council, the contract may be extended and increased in 2009.

FISCAL IMPACT: There is sufficient budget authority in Object Level One 03 within the Electricity Operating Fund for this expenditure. Approximately $20,000 was spent in 2006 and $59,290 was spent in 2007 for traffic control services.
