To Recognize the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk on Sunday, October 5th, 2008.

WHEREAS, The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a non-competitive walk to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer; and
WHEREAS, this inspiring event unites the entire community to honor and celebrate breast cancer survivors, educate the public about the importance of early detection and prevention, and raise money to fund lifesaving research and support programs to further the progress against this disease; and
WHEREAS, since 1999 hundreds of thousands of walkers across Central Ohio and beyond have collected more than $750,000 to help in the fight against breast cancer through Making Strides in Columbus, Ohio. In 2007, more than 500,000 participants in over 120 cities raised more than 45 million dollars to help fight this disease; and
WHEREAS, individuals of all ages are welcome to participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk either as part of a team or as an individual; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby encourage the Columbus community to join the fight against breast cancer by participating in the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk on Sunday, October 5th, 2008 at 9:00 a.m.
