Explanation
BACKGROUND: The Department of Development's optional relocation assistance program provides financial assistance to individuals and families who are required to relocate because their dwelling unit is not suitable for occupancy. The program can also assist low and moderate-income families in owner-occupied housing to temporarily relocate while lead hazard control work is being conducted in their home through city funded programs (e.g. Homeowner Assistance Program). These families are required to vacate their residences until the work is completed and a clearance is completed declaring that the housing unit is lead-safe. This legislation authorizes the Department of Development to expend $180,000 to continue the optional relocation assistance program.
The Housing Division's Relocation Office implements the relocation activities for both the code enforcement and lead hazard control aspects of this program. The city adheres to HUD Program requirements while planning and/or implementing HUD assisted projects under the optional relocation program.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funds for this activity are allocated from the 2003 Community Development Block Grant Fund.
