To proclaim the month of March as National Kidney Month and March 8th as World Kidney Day 2007 the City of Columbus.

WHEREAS, Every year, approximately 2,500 Ohioans are on the waiting list for a   
kidney transplant; and
 
WHEREAS, One-in-Nine Ohioans are at risk for developing kidney disease; and
 
WHEREAS, Early detection and treatment of kidney disease could result in fewer Ohioans requiring dialysis treatments; and
 
WHEREAS, For more than 30 years, the National Kidney Foundation of Ohio has been providing programs and services for Ohio kidney patients and their families; and
 
WHEREAS, The National Kidney Foundation of Ohio helps Ohioans prevent, treat and cure kidney and urinary tract disease; and
 
WHEREAS, March 8th has been declared World Kidney Day and March is National Kidney Month; now, therefore,
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That we do hereby proclaim the month of March 2007 as Kidney Disease Prevention Month in the City of Columbus and we strongly encourage all citizens to become aware of the warning signs of kidney disease and to "know their kidney score."
