Explanation

BACKGROUND: The Health Department provides laboratory testing of medical specimens generated by various programs within the Health Department. A "Request for Proposals for Reference Laboratory Services" for a two-year period was sent out in 2003, and Grant/Riverside Methodist Hospitals was awarded a contract. This ordinance will authorize funding for the second year of a two-year period. Emergency action is requested to ensure continued testing services for Health Department patients. The Contract Compliance number is 314394942.

FISCAL IMPACT: $134,000 is budgeted in the 2004 Health Special Revenue Fund to provide funding for this contract.

Body

WHEREAS, proposals were formally submitted through the RFP process for laboratory testing services for various programs of the Health Department; and,

WHEREAS, it is necessary to enter into the second year of a two-year contract with Grant/Riverside Methodist Hospitals; and,

WHEREAS, emergency action is requested to ensure continued testing services for Health Department patients.

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Health Department in that it is immediately necessary to enter into a contract with Grant/Riverside Methodist Hospitals for the immediate preservation of the public health, peace, property, safety and welfare, and to ensure continued testing services for Health Department patients; Now, therefore,

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
