To honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Patrice A. Palmer, 1962-2026

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Patrice A. Palmer, was born on March 8th, 1962, to her late parents, William Dyson Palmer and June Higgins Palmer; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Palmer was a social worker with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work (2009) and Master of Social Work (2010) from The Ohio State University, an ordained minister with a Doctorate in Divinity and Theology, and co-founder of Chosen4Change, who used her steadfast faith and grit to transform her experiences into a powerful platform for advocacy, empowerment, and systemic change; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Palmer was honored as Franklin County’s Employee of the Year in 2018, attended the State of the Union Address as an honored guest and was inducted into The Ohio State University College of Social Work Alumni Hall of Fame in 2020, and was named National Social Worker of the Year in 2022 by the National Association of Social Workers; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Palmer was a social justice figure with an unwavering commitment to criminal justice reform and reducing recidivism through a cognitive behavioral therapy modality that equipped hurting individuals with the necessary tools to break the cycle of dysfunction; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Columbus extends its sincere condolences to the friends and family of the Dr. Patrice A. Palmer, including her children, Brandon (Taniqua) Palmer, Justin (Takesha) Palmer, Elijah-Juan Williams, Maxamillion Williams, and Ozsha’leek Palmer-Martin; siblings  Michael (Cordalyn) Palmer and Cheryl Palmer, and countless other family members, friends, colleagues, faith leaders, and loved ones across Columbus and beyond; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this council does hereby honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Dr. Patrice A. Palmer.
