To honor, recognize and celebrate the life of the late George J. Igel, Jr.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, Columbus City Council extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of George J. Igel Jr. on the sorrowful occasion of his passing, Friday October 10, 2008 at the age of 84; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Igel was the retired President of the George J. Igel Co., Inc., a graduate of the University of Dayton and the University of Notre Dame; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Igel was a long-time active member of Christ the King Catholic Church, and was named Catholic Man of the Year for the Columbus Diocese in 1975; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Igel started the local chapter of the American Subcontractors Assoc., was the second local president and named was Subcontractor of the Year; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Igel was also honored as the Builders Exchange Man of the Year, Business man of the Year from Junior Achievement, Alumnus of the Year for the University of Dayton, and as a Community Service Award recipient by St. Anthony Hospital; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Igel was a former board member of St. Stephen's Community House, served as a member of the board since 1972 and was chosen as the inaugural recipient of the John Maloney Leadership award; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Igel also served prominent roles within the United Way of Columbus, Easter Seals and as the President of the Notre Dame Club of Columbus; and

 

WHEREAS, as a community leader, Mr. Igel left an indelible impression on the people whose lives he touched and a legacy of service for which he should be recognized, and in which his loving family can take pride; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

 

That this Council does hereby honor, recognize and celebrate the life of George J. Igel Jr., a dedicated businessman, community leader and public servant, and extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends on the sorrowful occasion of his passing.
