Explanation

BACKGROUND: This legislation authorizes the Finance and Management Director to enter into a contract on behalf of the Office of Construction Management with Farber Corporation for the renovation/replacement of the air conditioning chiller at the City of Columbus Police Academy, 1000 North Hague Avenue. The renovation/replacement of the chiller is needed due a premature rupture in the evaporator. The repair cost would equal or exceed the cost for a new chiller.

Formal bids were solicited and three firms submitted bids on March 25, 2011 as follows (0 MBE, 0 FBE):

Farber Corporation $172,500.00
Mid Ohio Air Conditioning $192,882.00
Kirk Williams $199,620.00

The Office of Construction Management recommends the bid award be made to the responsive and best bidder, Farber Corporation.

Emergency action is requested to ensure the needed HVAC renovations can be completed as quickly as possible with the rapidly approaching warm weather.

Farber Corporation Contract Compliance No. 31-0746886; expiration date June 10, 2012.

Fiscal Impact: This ordinance authorizes the expenditure of $172,500.00 from the Safety Voted Bond Fund where there are sufficient funds to cover this expense.
