To support the recommendations of the Greater Columbus Public Art Strategy to guide the development of new public art in Columbus.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, the Greater Columbus Public Art Strategy is intended to serve as a vision for future public art in Columbus and Franklin County; and,

 

WHEREAS, this strategy will provide the City of Columbus with the research and rationale to implement new public art and cultural policies; and,

 

WHEREAS, this strategy included three distinct phases that enabled comprehensive community engagement and expert input; and,

 

WHEREAS, this engagement initiative gathered feedback from over 2,000 community members in the form of surveys, one-on-one interviews, townhalls, workshops, and pop-up events; and,

 

WHEREAS, this strategy provides recommendations for the development of new public art, including the distribution of public art, diversity of art and artists, process improvements, and funding sources; and,

 

WHEREAS, this strategy is essential to enhance the built environment, deepen community identity, represent the diversity of the City of Columbus through the arts, support local artists, and foster a more vibrant and inclusive cultural landscape.

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby express its support for the Greater Columbus Public Art Strategy to guide the planning and development of future public art in the City of Columbus and encourages all City departments and divisions to reference the strategy when initiating or reviewing public art proposals. The Council further commends the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the Department of Development for their leadership in advancing this shared vision, and recognizes the importance of maintaining the Greater Columbus Public Art Strategy on file to inform future public art initiatives and implementation efforts throughout the city.
