Explanation
BACKGROUND:
This ordinance authorizes the Director of Development to enter into a grant agreement with The Columbus Urban League in an amount up to $500,000.00 for the purpose of renovating building space to establish a Workforce Development Lab within The Columbus Urban League’s Small Business Resource Center. Economic growth and development is critical to the success of Columbus and to every resident. The Workforce Development Lab will provide entrepreneurial training, business development services, financial literacy education and workforce innovation programming to promote economic growth throughout Columbus and for all residents. This ordinance also authorizes payment of eligible expenses, including soft costs, prior to the purchase order beginning August 1, 2025. Payments will be advanced on a predetermined schedule provided in the terms of the agreement.
Emergency action is necessary to ensure the payment per the commitment is made, allowing for the intended renovations to be completed per the organization’s renovation schedule. Renovations will allow for expanded and continuous provision of services to Columbus residents.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funding is available with the Development Taxable Bonds Fund, 7739.
CONTRACT COMPLIANCE: CC- CC006073 expires 8/11/2027
