Explanation
Background
This legislation will authorize the City Attorney to accept the Somali Victim Advocate Grant #2005-JG-D01-6334 from the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services for the maintenance of existing services to Somali crime victims within the Witness Assistance unit of the City Attorney's Office. This unit assists witnesses and victims of domestic violence through the legal process and provides counseling, referrals, and linkage with agencies and community resources. This ordinance will further authorize the transfer and appropriation of matching funds required by the grant award.
Emergency action is requested to allow for the earliest possible commencement of the grant program.
This ordinance is contingent on the passage of the 2006 General Fund Budget.

The required matching funds of $10,000.00 are included in the City Attorney's 2006 General Fund Budget.

WHEREAS, the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services, has awarded the City of Columbus, City Attorney's Office, a grant in the amount of Thirty Thousand Dollars ($30,000.00) for grant 2005-JG-D01-6334 Somali Victim Advocate program for the year 2006; and
