To honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Dr. Lewis E. “Baba” Dodley Sr., 1940-2026.

WHEREAS, Dr. Lewis E. Dodley Sr., lovingly referred to as “Baba” by family, was born on December 25th, 1940 to his late parents Gilbert Blossie Dodley and Luetta Jean Stewart; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Dodley Sr. was a champion and leader of the youth who dedicated his life to encouraging children and strengthening families; serving as a mentor, councilor, project director, program head, committee member, senior consultant, drug prevention coordinator, and motivational speaker throughout his 86 years of life; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Dodley Sr. was a beloved son and pillar of the community; earning awards such as the Community Against Violence and Abuse Award in 2005, being included in The History Makers digital repository for the Black Experience in 2012, and inspiring shows of adoration such as a massive drive-by birthday celebration in 2020; and
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus extends its sincere condolences to the friends and family of Dr. Lewis Dodley Sr., including his wife, Charlene; children Lewis Jr., Mark, and Imani, Felicia, Lisette, Leland, Michael Jr., Tracy; brothers Robert and Gilbert, plus all of the other family, friends, mentees, and community members he held dear; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Dr. Lewis E. “Baba” Dodley Sr.
