To recognize and commend Deputy Fire Chief Robert W. Coles for his 35 ½ years of distinguished service to the City of Columbus on his retirement from the Columbus Division of Fire on April 19, 2011.



Body

WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Robert W. Coles became a fire fighter in October, 1975 and has worked his way up through the ranks during his distinguished 35 ½ year fire service career with the Columbus Division of Fire; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Coles was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1986, Captain in 1992, Battalion Chief in 1998, and Deputy Chief in August 2002, most recently serving as the Deputy Chief of Special Operations which includes Emergency Medical Services, the Technical Rescue Program, the Division's Bomb Squad, Hazmat Program and the Dive and Rescue Team; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Coles served as the project manager for the Division's Accreditation Committee and was instrumental in the achievement of the Columbus Division of Fire's International Accreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation, Inc. in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Coles also served as the EMS billing project and contract manager and was a member of the grievance committee for the Columbus Firefighters Local 67, the entry level firefighter hiring committee, the uniformed personnel promotional testing committee and served an instructor for Fire Command at Columbus State Community College; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Coles has had numerous accomplishments during his 35 ½ year career with the Columbus Division of Fire which include the Fire Chief's Award and City Council Resolution for his management of the Division's Accreditation Committee and a Distinguished Service Award for his life saving actions during a possible suicide attempt; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Robert W. Coles retired on April 19, 2011 after 35 ½ years of commendable service to the citizens of Columbus with the Columbus Division of Fire; now, therefore
