Explanation
This ordinance modifies and increases the construction contract with Columbus Asphalt Paving, Incorporated for the I-71/Morse Road Interchange Enhancement project in an amount up to $53,310.00. This project is the first of five for the Morse Road - Indianola to Cleveland Avenue corridor and consists of retaining walls, trees and other decorative plantings within the I-71 limited access right-of-way to create an entrance to the commercial section of the roadway. The Morse Road work is designed to promote neighborhood livability, pedestrian friendliness and business retention and expansion. This modification is required to construct an irrigation system within the project limits and represents a late change in the project's scope. The system will substantially reduce landscaping maintenance costs. Prices were obtained by negotiations with Columbus Asphalt Paving. This is the first modification to this existing contract.

Columbus Asphalt Paving, Incorporated's contract compliance number is 31-0857095 which expires August 16, 2004.

The original contract amount was for $790,814.08.
The total of this modification is $53,310.00.
The total contract amount including all modifications is $844,124.08.

Fiscal Impact: The project is budgeted in the Transportation Division's capital improvement budget in the 1995, 1999 Voted Streets and Highways Fund, Morse Road project.

Emergency action is requested so that the improvement may be completed without delay.
