Explanation

BACKGROUND: This legislation authorizes the Director of the Department of Development to enter into a contract with the Community Shelter Board (CSB) for the Safety Net Program. The contract will provide $2,205,279.00 from the General Fund for the purpose of continuing the city's support for homeless emergency shelters, Maryhaven Engagement Center, related homeless shelter services, and homelessness prevention and transition services. These programs have effectively and efficiently enabled our community to help individuals and families who are homeless or near homelessness to resolve their housing crisis.

Emergency action is requested so that the Community Shelter Board can continue to provide these services without interruption.

FISCAL IMPACT: Funds for the contract are allocated from the FY2009 General Fund. The 2009 General Fund Budget included $2,205,279.00 for the Safety Net Program.

WHEREAS, the Director of the Department of Development desires to enter into a contract with the Community Shelter Board; and

WHEREAS, the city continues to support the Community Shelter Board's homeless emergency shelters, Maryhaven Engagement Center, related homeless shelter services, and homelessness prevention and transition services; and

WHEREAS, these programs have effectively and efficiently enabled our community to help individuals and families who are homeless resolve their housing crisis; and

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Department of Development, ...
