To honor and recognize Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.

WHEREAS, Columbus City Council welcomes Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., back to Columbus, Ohio, where he has honored and blessed the Rev. Dr. Susan K. Smith and members and friends of Advent United Church of Christ by serving as their annual revival speaker for thirteen years. He also honored and blessed the City of Columbus as the 2004 keynote speaker for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Birthday Breakfast; and,

WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Wright has served as Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Illinois since March of 1972. The membership began at 87 adults. Currently, the membership exceeds 8,000. The membership continues to grow numerically and spiritually. Trinity has constructed two new worship centers; the present worship center seats 2,700 and covers 150,000 square feet. Over 70 ministries are offered to enhance the Christian journey; and,

WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was a third generation family member to complete their education at Virginia Union University in Richmond, the same college where his mother and father met and where his grandparents completed college; and,

WHEREAS, after serving six years in the military, Pastor Wright transferred to Howard University where he completed his undergraduate studies and received his first Master's Degree. He also received an additional Master's Degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School. He received his Doctorate from the United Theological Seminary under
Dr. Samuel DeWitt ; and,

WHEREAS, In addition to Pastor Wright's four earned degrees, he has been the recipient of three honorary Doctor of Divinity Degrees; a Doctor of Letters Degree from Colgate University and a Doctor of Laws Degree from Bethune-Cookman College.
