To recognize and honor Guadalupe Velasquez as a Madrina of Latino Heritage Month Columbus 2024

 

Body

WHEREAS, from September 15 to October 15 each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the achievements, histories, traditions and cultural diversity of Hispanic/Latino/Latinx Americans whose heritage is rooted in over 20 Latin American countries and territories; and

WHEREAS, the Latino Heritage Month Columbus Padrinos Initiative was started to honor individuals who have demonstrated ongoing dedication and commitment to the advancement and uplifting of the local Latino community; and

WHEREAS, Guadalupe Velasquez is the Managing Director of Welcoming City, a social enterprise of US Together Inc., that focuses on a comprehensive approach to economic and workforce development integration; her work focuses on creating career pathways that assist skilled immigrants and refugees in Ohio; and

WHEREAS, Guadalupe Velasquez formerly served in city government for twelve years as the New Americans Initiative Coordinator, the Assistant Director of the Community Relations Commission, and the Assistant Director for the Department of Neighborhoods, respectively; and

WHEREAS, Guadalupe Velasquez’s deep devotion and commitment to serving and uplifting others is what makes her an exceptional example of what it means to be a Madrina of the community; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby recognize and honor Guadalupe Velasquez as a Madrina of Latino Heritage Month Columbus 2024.
