To Congratulate Niki Yemi as the 2026 George Meany Community Service Award Recipient
Body
WHEREAS, the George Meany Awards Banquet, the largest labor recognition of its kind in the country, is a night for the Central Ohio AFL-CIO and the United Way Community Services Department to recognize local business and labor leaders who have given outstanding volunteer service to the community; and
WHEREAS, the George Meany Awards, named after the late George Meany, former President of the national AFL-CIO, are presented by the Central Ohio AFL-CIO to a labor person for outstanding leadership and support of health, welfare, and recreation services to the Central Ohio Community; and
WHEREAS, Niki Yemi was raised in a proud union household, inspired by her father, Huert Snead of TWU Local 208, who received the same distinguished award in 1994; and
WHEREAS, she began her career at Ohio Bell 34 years ago and has worked with CWA Loal 4320 for over 30 years, serving on the Women’s, Equity, and Human Rights Committees; and
WHEREAS, deeply committed to public service, Niki has volunteered in schools mentoring children; supported food banks and food drives; partnered with churches to collect clothing and pantry items; and contributed to the “Our Fathers” program for at-risk youth; and
WHEREAS, Niki has also organized a book drive with the “Saving A Mind” program, and led a major effort to collect caring cases for foster children, providing thousands of dollars in essential items to The Village Network; and
WHEREAS, having been elected Secretary/Treasurer of CWA Local 4320 and as the CWA District 3 representative on the CWA Minority Caucus, Niki champions the voices of every union member-giving back to her community whenever possible; and
WHEREAS, in her spare time, Niki is a voice-over artist and co-host of the Life of Labor podcast; now therefore
