To honor and recognize the Girls Scouts of the U.S.A. as they celebrate their 94th anniversary.
 
Body
 
WHEREAS, Sunday, March 12, 2006, is the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., the largest voluntary organization solely dedicated to girls; and
 
WHEREAS, The Girl Scout program has been a channel for girls of all ages to build their courage, confidence and character to make important contributions to their communities, including here in the City of Columbus; and
 
WHEREAS, The Girl Scout program not only reflects the enduring values and standards that have been part of the organization since 1912, but also lends itself to the special and unique situation of girls in the new millennium; and
 
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts is a vital organization for girls who are growing up, enabling them to develop self-esteem and leadership skills, and providing an atmosphere of warm and true friendship; and
 
WHEREAS, more than 26,000 girls and 7,000 adults in our local Seal of Ohio council and more than 3.8 million current Girl Scout members nationwide will be celebrating 94 years of an American tradition, with nearly 50 million women who are former Girl Scouts and living proof  of the impact of the Girl Scout Movement;  now, therefore,
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That we do hereby proclaim and endorse the week of March 12 - 18, 2006 as GIRL SCOUT WEEK in the City of Columbus and we encourage the residents of Columbus to support the activities and endeavors of Girl Scouts.
