To honor and recognize Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea for winning the 2016 Roast Magazine’s Roaster of the Year competition in the large roaster category.

Whereas, Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea was founded in 1991 by Greg Ubert as an entrepreneur with a modest investment from his parents and friends to rent a 1,200 square foot office and a small blue coffee roaster; and
Whereas, Crimson Cup’s journey began with experimentation of mixing African, Columbian, Mexican and Sumatran beans, which would eventually be sold to Columbus businesses and coffeehouses; and
Whereas, Crimson Cup, with its worldwide headquarters in Columbus, has grown to be served in over 250 independent coffeehouses, specialty grocery stores, colleges and universities, bakeries, restaurants and food service operators in over 28 states; and
Whereas, Roast Magazine’s Roaster of the Year award recognizes companies that roast coffees of superior quality, exemplify dedication to sustainability, promote employee and community education, and demonstrate a strong commitment to the coffee industry; and
Whereas, this is a very prestigious International award given to only one macro roaster, roasting over 100,000 pounds of coffee, each year; and
Whereas, Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea took top prize for Macro-Roaster of the Year with an output of 485,000 pounds of roasted coffee per year. The focus on education, support for independent coffee houses, ongoing partnerships with local universities, and a continuing innovation contributed to the top placement; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS
That this Council does hereby honor and recognize Columbus’ own Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea for their entrepreneurial excellence for being the 12th Annual Roast Magazine Roaster of the Year and we join the Columbus community to celebrate this achievement.
