Explanation

BACKGROUND: This legislation authorizes the Director of the Department of Development to enter into a grant agreement with Strategies Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) to provide violence prevention activities for a total amount of $8,000.

The funding will be used to finance and support SAVE's Students Network at South High School. Funds will be used to provide salaries and fringe costs to program staff and trainers. The program is a school-based, youth development, violence prevention service for at-risk youth with an emphasis on developing the skills attitude and protective factors needed to keep children from becoming a victim or perpetrator of crime and to graduate and become successful and responsible adults. The program and grant application have been reviewed by City Council and it was determined that they have articulated a need for Emergency Human Services funds that is sufficient to justify approval of said grant.

Emergency action is necessary to avoid causing interruptions in the delivery of program services.

FISCAL IMPACT: Funding for this activity is allocated from the Emergency Human Services Fund.
