To commend the mission of the American Association of Blacks in Energy and to recognize Mr. Jerry Johnson Sr. for his leadership contributions in helping to achieve the organization's vision.
 
Body
 
WHEREAS, AABE functions as a resource for policy discussion of the economic, social and political impact of environmental energy policies of African Americans and other minorities; and
 
WHEREAS, AABE helps to ensure involvement of African Americans in governmental energy policy making by recommending capable, sensitive and informed personnel to appropriate administration of political officials; and
 
WHEREAS, AABE encourages both public and private sectors to be responsive to the problem, goals and aspirations of African Americans in energy-related fields; and
 
WHEREAS, each year the organization awards scholarships in science, mathematics and engineering to outstanding minority high school students. These scholarships are given to encourage African American students to pursue careers in energy-related fields and to provide internships and other financial aid for such students; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this Council does hereby recognize the American Association of Blacks in Energy and their effort to ensure the input of African Americans and other minorities into the discussion and development of energy policies, regulations, R&D technologies and environmental issues.
