Explanation
This ordinance authorizes the City Attorney to accept a grant from the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Justice Programs Unit, for the Office of the City Attorney, Prosecutor Division. These funds shall be used to retain the Stalking Unit Investigator who assists in the investigation of stalking cases, assists victims, and fills the liaison role with all municipal police departments sharing information and maintaining data collection on stalking suspects. This ordinance will further authorize the City Attorney to appropriate and expend matching funds required by the grant award.

Matching funds required from the City Attorney's budget are $19,485.00

To authorize the acceptance and appropriation of a grant from the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Justice Programs Unit for the total amount of $58,454.00 for the purpose of continuing efforts in the deterrence of the crime of stalking, to authorize the transfer and appropriation of matching funds required by the acceptance of this grant in the amount of $19,485.00 and to declare an emergency.

WHEREAS, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Justice Programs Unit, has awarded the City of Columbus, City Attorney's Office, Prosecutor Division a grant in the amount of $58,454.00 for Grant No. 2003-WF-VA6-V504 Stalking Investigator for the year 2004; and
WHEREAS, the acceptance of this grant requires that the City Attorney supply matching funds in the amounts of $19,485.00; and
WHEREAS, these funds will be used to continue the employ of a Stalking Unit Investigator to assist the City Attorney with various responsibilities related to the crime of stalking; and
