Explanation
BACKGROUND This ordinance authorizes the Public Service Director to enter into a contract with Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal Inc. for renovation the roof at the Fire Training Academy 3639 Parsons Ave. The roof is leaking and failure to replace it may cause structural damage to the building . Formal bids were solicited and nine companies (2 MBE, 0 FBE) submitted bids on April 1, 2003. The bids were as follows:

EMERGENCY action is requested so that the roof can be repaired as soon as practical.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funds for this repair are budgeted within the Fire Division's Capital Improvement Budget. Kalkreuth Roofing's contract compliance number is 550647319, expiration date 07/27/2004.

WHEREAS, it is necessary to renovate the roof at the Fire Training Academy, and
WHEREAS, formal competitive bids were taken to renovate said roof, and
WHEREAS, Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal is the lowest and best responsive and responsible bidder and,
WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Public Service Department, Facilities Management Division, in that it is immediately necessary to enter into contract with Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal Inc to renovate the roof at the Fire Training Academy , thereby preserving the public health, peace, property, ...
