Explanation
The Health Department operates the Ben Franklin Tuberculosis Clinic under a revenue contract with Franklin County. Pharmacist services are necessary in the clinic to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy. In 2002, a contract was awarded through the RFP process to Pharmacy People, Inc. for these services. At the time the initial contract was awarded, it was not known how much pharmacist time would be necessary to create an accountable, formalized system to dispense medications that would be in compliance with the Pharmacy Board regulations. The TB Control Program has been dealing with an unprecedented increase in the number of patients being treated for latent and active TB infection. Therefore, it is necessary to increase and extend the contract by $38,000 for three additional months, through December 31, 2003 for a total contract amount of $78,000.
Emergency action is requested to ensure continued compliance with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy. The contract compliance number is 311201354.
The additional amount of funds to be expended is $38,000. At the time the initial contract was awarded, it was not known how much pharmacist time would be necessary to create an accountable, formalized system to dispense medications that would be in compliance with the Pharmacy Board regulations. The contract was awarded competitively for a two-year period. The fees charged in the current contract will remain the same throughout the extended time period.
FISCAL IMPACT: $60,000 was budgeted for these services in the 2003 Health Special Revenue Fund budget. All T.B. Clinic expenditures are reimbursed under a revenue contract with Franklin County.
