Explanation

This ordinance accepts the tentative agreement reached between representatives of the City of Columbus and AFSCME Local 1632 and Ohio Council 8, covering the period April 1, 2011 through March 31, 2014.

This tentative agreement has been approved by representatives of the City and the Union.

Emergency action is recommended because certain provisions of the Contract are effective in April and time is needed for implementation.

The terms of the new contract and the fiscal impact were summarized in a memorandum to City Council, dated March 10, 2011.

To accept the tentative agreement between the City of Columbus and AFSCME Local 1632 and Ohio Council 8, April 1, 2011 -March 31, 2014, related to a successor collective bargaining agreement for employees in classifications within the bargaining unit; and to declare an emergency.


Body

WHEREAS, the representatives of the City of Columbus and AFSCME Local 1632 and Ohio Council 8 reached a tentative agreement for a successor collective bargaining agreement on March 1, 2011; and

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the City in that it is immediately necessary to accept the tentative agreement negotiated between representatives of the City and AFSCME Local 1632 and Ohio Council 8, April 1, 2011 -March 31, 2014, for employees in the bargaining unit, thereby preserving public peace, property, health, safety, and welfare; Now, Therefore

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

Section 1. The Council of the City of Columbus hereby accepts the tentative agreement between the City and AFSCME Local 1632 and Ohio Council 8, attached hereto as Attachment A, to establish the wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment for employees in the bargaining unit, as specified and stated in Attachment A.
