To honor and recognize the Columbus Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Gene T. Harris on the landmark results by students of the Columbus City Schools on the 2006-2007 Ohio Report Card.

WHEREAS, Ohio schools districts are subject to a series of academic standards they must meet or exceed, which are presented publicly as an annual report card by the Ohio Department of Education; and
WHEREAS, on the Columbus City Schools 2006-2007 Ohio Report Card, for the first time, the district earned the "Continuous Improvement" rating; and
WHEREAS, Columbus City Schools also set another benchmark on the 2006-2007 Ohio Report Card, becoming the first Ohio school district to meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals in all 42 categories and sub-categories of the Ohio Report Card system; and
WHEREAS, meeting the state AYP requirement recognizes the achievement of all students in all groups, or designated classifications, including race, poverty, special education and non-English-speaking students; and
WHEREAS, by meeting all 42 AYP goals and earning a Performance Index Score of 80.5, the Columbus City Schools has increased the district's Performance Index Score by 17.7 points since 2001; and
WHEREAS, the Columbus Board of Education, including Board President Terry A. Boyd, Ph.D., Vice-President Betty Drummond, Jeff Cabot, W. Shawna Gibbs, Stephanie Groce, Carol L. Perkins and Carlton Weddington, and Superintendent Dr. Gene T. Harris are committed to increasing academic improvement and achieving a 90 percent graduation rate for Columbus City School students by 2012; and
WHEREAS, since 2002, Columbus City Schools has increased its graduation rate by 16.9 percentage points, and is well on its way to meeting this goal; now therefore
