To proclaim October 2-8, 2005 as Public Power Week in Columbus, Ohio, to celebrate 105 years of community service by the Division of Electricity, and to recognize the benefits of public power in Columbus.
WHEREAS, for 105 years the City of Columbus, Division of Electricity, has provided reliable electric service and safer neighborhoods through street lighting; and
WHEREAS, as citizen owners of the municipal electric system each resident has a voice in the operation of the utility through their elected representatives; and
WHEREAS, this local control benefits the entire city and the Division of Electricity's nearly 14,000 retail electric customers through more reliable electric service and safer neighborhoods through street lighting; and
WHEREAS, the division is self-sustaining, supporting reliable electric service and an expanding street lighting system through the revenues raised from electric sales; and
WHEREAS, employees of the Division of Electricity daily work to provide outstanding customer service which keeps 47,000 street lights burning and electricity flowing to electric customers; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS
That this Council does hereby proclaim October 2 - 8, 2005 as Public Power Week in Columbus celebrating 105 years of community service by the Division of Electricity through greater neighborhood security and to educate the Division's consumer owners, policy makers and employees about the municipal electric system's contributions to the quality of life in the community.
