To honor Michael G. Morris for his support of the Columbus community and to recognize the work of the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus.



Body

WHEREAS, each year the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus honors local community members for their extraordinary contributions to our community; and

WHEREAS, on May 3, 2011, the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus will join more than 600 local corporate and community partners to honor Michael G. Morris, chairman and CEO of American Electric Power, for his numerous charitable contributions to the Columbus community at the 15th Annual Humanitarian of the Year Luncheon; and

WHEREAS, since joining American Electric Power in 2004, Mr. Morris has made outstanding contributions to AEP, the electric utility industry and the Columbus community; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Morris helped create the AEP Foundation which has supported campaigns for COSI, Franklin Park Conservatory, Grange Audubon Center, Mid-Ohio Food Bank and a project close to Morris' heart, the Scioto Mile, a winding riverfront park that will stretch from the Arena District to the Whittier Peninsula; and

WHEREAS, through the support of AEP, the AEP Foundation and Mr. Morris, programs of United Way, Community Shelter Board, Center for Healthy Families, American Red Cross of Greater Columbus, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the Central Ohio Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (COBIDA), Habitat for Humanity and many other organizations will have a lasting impact on the Columbus community; and

WHEREAS, The American Red Cross of Greater Columbus serves more than 1.6 million residents of central Ohio with Disaster Relief, Service to Military Families, Health & Safety Education and other life-saving programs; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

That we do hereby honor Michael G. Morris for his ongoing support and thank him for his commitment to the Columbus community.
