To Declare May 2016 as Mental Health Month in the City of Columbus and to recognize the work of North Central Mental Health and Southeast Health Care Services.

WHEREAS, one in five Americans will be affected by a mental health condition in their lifetime; and
WHEREAS, there are millions of people who suffer in silence because of the stigma of mental health, a stigma that is a national problem and not confined to Central Ohio alone; and
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus in a proactive effort to raise awareness and recognizing the need to change how we talk about depression, suicide, and the various mental health challenges that impact our community is celebrating the work of North Central Mental Health and Southeast Health Care Services who have been providing mental health services in our community for more than 30 years in the case of Southeast and since 1973 in the case of North Central; and
WHEREAS, May has been designated as National Mental Health Awareness Month - a time dedicated to focusing national attention on the importance of mental health; recommitting our community to increasing awareness; improving understanding; and highlighting mental health service providers in our community, now therefore;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby Declare May 2016 as Mental Health Month in the City of Columbus and recognizes and celebrates the work of North Central Mental Health and Southeast Health Care Services in our community.
