To declare the month of March as National Kidney Month and March 13th, 2008 as World Kidney Day in the City of Columbus.
 
 
Body
 
WHEREAS, every year, approximately 2,300 Ohioans are on the waiting list for a kidney transplant; and
 
WHEREAS, one-in-nine Ohioans are at risk for developing kidney disease; and
 
WHEREAS, there has been a 30% increase in the number of incidences of Chronic Kidney Disease.  Early detection and treatment of kidney disease could result in fewer Ohioans requiring dialysis treatments; and
 
WHEREAS, for more than 30 years, the National Kidney Foundation of Ohio has been providing programs and services for Ohio kidney patients and their families; and
 
WHEREAS, The National Kidney Foundation of Ohio helps Ohioans prevent, treat and cure kidney and urinary tract disease; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby declare the month of March 2008 as Kidney Disease Awareness Month and March 13th, 2008 as World Kidney Day in the City of Columbus.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does strongly encourage all citizens to become aware of the warning signs of kidney disease and to "know their kidney score."
