To celebrate and recognize October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
Body
WHEREAS, National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) was officially recognized by Congress in 1988, with the purpose of acknowledging the importance of increasing opportunities for people with disabilities in the workforce; and,
WHEREAS, NDEAM is an opportunity to highlight the contributions of workers with disabilities and to educate the public about the value of disability inclusion in the workplace; and,
WHEREAS, recognition of NDEAM encourages the hiring, retention, and advancement of people with disabilities; and,
WHEREAS, this year we recognize the value and talent American workers with disabilities add to our workplaces and economy, and to highlight their achievements both past and present; and,
WHEREAS, disability inclusion is beneficial for everyone, as it creates supportive, accessible and understanding working environments for all, encourages and fosters innovation, and embraces a variety of diverse perspectives and lived experiences; and,
WHEREAS, approximately 13 percent of the total population of the City of Columbus lives with a disability; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus recognizes the value and contributions of individuals with disabilities in the workplace, and continues to advocate for and support inclusion, equity, and belonging; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus remains committed to advancing inclusion for people with disabilities within the workplace and our community; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby celebrate and recognize October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM).
