1. BACKGROUND
The Department of Public Service, Keep Columbus Beautiful (KCB) program, as an affiliate member in good standing, has received a cash award sponsored by Keep America Beautiful, Incorporated (KAB), as part of the 2013 Great American Cleanup program. The award, formally called the 2013 Nestle’s Great American Cleanup PET Recycling Award, is designed to encourage local PET (plastic bottle) recycling solutions that showcase environmental stewardship and show evidence of sustainability. The cleanup drive occurs during the month of March. KAB affiliates that are among the largest contributors of PET bottle pounds for recycling during the month of March receive the award. A check of $1,000.00 was awarded to Keep Columbus Beautiful in recognition of their contribution to the cleanup drive this year.

Keep Columbus Beautiful is requesting acceptance of the $1,000.00 to be used for the overall mission of community improvement for the City of Columbus and its neighborhoods. This legislation authorizes the Director of Public Service to formally accept the award and to authorize the appropriation of these funds and previous small donations totaling $55.00 within the Private Grant Fund.

2. FISCAL IMPACT
None. No city match is required to accept this award. Keep Columbus Beautiful resources that will be dedicated to managing/implementing this award are included in the program's 2013 operating budget within the General Fund.

3. EMERGENCY DESIGNATION
Emergency action is requested to allow the use of the funds to facilitate the ongoing mission and program needs of Keep Columbus Beautiful. The warm weather season is the busiest time of the year for Keep Columbus Beautiful and when the money can best be put to use.
