To recognize and designate September 8th through September 14th as Public Safety Week 2024 in Columbus, Ohio.

WHEREAS, celebrating Public Safety Week builds the relationships between the community and public safety officials, by addressing the public safety needs of residents, and connecting them to high-quality public safety services and resources; and

WHEREAS, public safety has five sub-sectors: fire service, law enforcement, corrections, emergency medical services (EMS), and wildland/environment service. Every day across our state, emergencies occur that threaten people’s life, well-being, property, peace, and security. During these events, communities rely on public safety officials to respond, protect, and restore the safety, security, and routine of our lives. Every time these responders take action, they may be putting their health, safety, and even lives on the line; and

WHEREAS, With over 1,500 members of the Columbus Division of Fire and over 1,800 members of the Columbus Division of Police providing vital care and protection to Columbus residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and

WHEREAS, it is important that residents of the community also understand how to protect themselves and those around them. Public Safety Week educates and provides lifesaving training and resources to those who participate; and

WHEREAS, encourages communication throughout the City of Columbus, consisting of community conversations amongst public safety officials, faith-based leaders, and residents of Columbus; and

WHEREAS, events throughout Public Safety Week provide training, community conversations, the distribution of safety resources, and a day dedicated to service to foster relationships between residents and public safety officials and improve the safety and well-being of Columbus, Ohio; and

WHEREAS, Columbus City Council encourages all residents to participate in Public Safety Week and thank the many people and organizations in our community...
