To recognize September 13, 2026 as Recovery Sunday in the City of Columbus
Body
WHEREAS, substance use disorder affects individuals and families across every neighborhood, and recovery is possible when people are met with compassion, dignity, timely treatment and sustained community support, and
WHEREAS, faith communities have a vital role in reducing stigma, sharing messages of hope, connecting residents to trusted resources, and welcoming individuals and families affected by addiction; and
WHEREAS, the Columbus Kappa Foundation Community Connector Program works in neighborhoods throughout Columbus to build relationships, provide outreach and education, and help residents connect with counseling, treatment, recovery supports and other essential services; and
WHEREAS, Shiloh Baptist Church will serve as the host congregation for the annual Recovery Sunday observance on Sunday, September 13, 2026 while churches and faith-based organizations throughout Columbus are encouraged to address recovery within their congregations and communities; and
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus commends the Columbus Kappa Foundation Community Connector Program, Shiloh Baptist Church, participating congregations, recovery advocates, service providers and community partners for advancing hope, reducing stigma, and helping individuals and families pursue healing; and
WHEREAS, Recovery Sunday brigs residents, faith leaders, service providers, Community Connectors, and community partners together to honor lives, restored, remember lives lost, support families, and affirm that no person should walk the road to recovery alone now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this council hereby recognizes September 13th, 2026, as Recovery Sunday in the City of Columbus
