To celebrate the life and service of Sue Willis and to extend our sincerest condolences to her family and friends

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, Sue was the Founder and Director of the AXIS Center for Public Awareness of People with Disabilities; and

 

WHEREAS, Born to Robert E and Phyllis J Williams on Jan. 2, 1945 in Columbus. She was an Ohio State graduate with MA in Fine Arts, Design and Communication; and

 

WHEREAS, Sue was a strong advocate for Ohioans living with Developmental Disabilities. She began her tenure on the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council in 1992, developing the Council’s first newsletter and serving as Chair of the Leadership and Development Committee; and                     

 

WHEREAS, Sue was a founding member of the Disability Rights Ohio’s board of directors, the Ohio Olmstead Task Force, the Columbus Mayor’s Committee on Disability, and Ohio Vote Coalition; and

 

WHEREAS, Always a champion for collaboration, Sue received the Synergy Award in 2015, an award that honors a person whose work in the disability field “represents the interaction of two or more agents or forces so their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects;”

 

WHEREAS, Sue’s advocacy has left a lasting impact on residents in Columbus and across Ohio. She will be fondly remembered for dedicating her passion and intelligence to the service of others: now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

 

That this Council does hereby celebrate the life and service of Sue Willis and extend our sincerest condolences to her family and friends on the occasion of her passing.
