Explanation
BACKGROUND: The City's 2004 appropriation ordinances numbers 2550-2003 and 2578-2003 reflects the consolidation of the functions of the License Section, Communications Division and Weights and Measures Section into a new division called the Support Services Division. This reorganization was necessary to better organize various operations within Public Safety in a more efficient and effective manner and reduce the need to fill vacant positions.
This legislation amends various sections of the Columbus City Codes and consolidates the operations of chapters 501, 1941, and 2901 into the Division of Support Services.
Body
WHEREAS, as proposed in the 2004 budget, the Division of Support Services will be created; and
WHEREAS, functions which had been performed by the Division of Communications, the Weights and Measures section and the License Section will be consolidated into the creation of a Division of Support Services, thereby organizing operations in a more efficient manner; and,
WHEREAS,Chapters 217, 501, 1941 and 2901 of the Columbus City Codes should be amended to create the Division of Support Services; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS
SECTION 1. That the Columbus City Codes, Sections 217, 501, 1941, 2901 be and are hereby amended to read as follows:
217.01 Function of Department of Public Safety established.
There is established a Department of Public Safety consisting of a Director of Public Safety, a Deputy Director of Public Safety, the Division of Communications Support Services, the Division of Fire and the Division of Police. The Department shall perform all lawful functions as may be directed by the Mayor or ordinance of Council. (Ord. 154-84).
