Explanation
This ordinance authorizes the City Clerk to enter into a grant agreement with the Community Arts Project Inc. DBA The King Arts Complex, a non-profit entity, for the support of their 27th Annual Heritage Music Festival.

The Heritage Music Festival honors the rich historical, artistic, and entrepreneurial tradition of African-Americans in Columbus, Ohio. The King-Lincoln District is the home for the event, but the event honors all communities that have and continue to be a part of Columbus’ African-American history. It is a free, family-friendly concert series welcome to all residents. The festival - approaching its 27th year - is designed to enrich and improve the quality of life in the King-Lincoln District as well as fostering enhanced understanding and harmony via the arts. We feature local artists and musicians, food vendors, merchant vendors and informational vendors offering information about their local health and wellness services.

The six weeks of the festival creates an economic boost for the entire neighborhood each Thursday for the duration of the series. Local businesses frequently hold parallel events during the festival to capitalize on the influx of concert attendees. The King Arts Complex encourages entrepreneurship in the community and highlight those who are making a difference.

Fiscal Impact: Funding is available within the Neighborhood Initiatives subfund.
