To honor and Recognize Shoreh Elhami on retirement

Body

WHEREAS, Shoreh Elhami has dedicated more than three decades of her professional life to public service, advancing the use of geographic information systems (GIS), data management, and technology to improve government operations and better serve the residents of Columbus; and

WHEREAS, Shoreh attended the National University of Iran and graduated in 1982, and after arriving in the United States, continued her education at The Ohio State University, earning her Master of Science in City and Regional Planning in 1989; and

WHEREAS, she began her public service career in 1994 as the GIS Director for the Delaware County Auditor’s Office and joined the City of Columbus in 2013 as the Citywide GIS Manager; and

WHEREAS, in 2018, a new division was created within the Department of Technology for her to lead, consolidating the City’s data management functions under the organization she built from the ground up - a testament to the trust and confidence placed in her vision and leadership; and

WHEREAS, among her many accomplishments was standing up the City’s enterprise data management platform, Talend - the engine that enables data movement and integration across critical city systems, forming the technological backbone of modern city operations; and

WHEREAS, she also helped establish the City’s first enterprise data analytics and visualization capabilities, fundamentally changing how departments use information to make decisions and serve residents; and

WHEREAS, Shoreh co-founded GISCorps through the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA), expanding access to geographic information systems and mapping services for communities around the world - extending the reach of her expertise far beyond Columbus; and

WHEREAS, Shoreh Elhami’s life and career exemplify resilience, leadership, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to public service, leaving a lasting impact on the City of ...
