BACKGROUND: This legislation authorizes the Director of the Department of Development to provide grant assistance to various social service organizations for the provision of services as described below. These funds will support program activities for a twelve-month period for a total amount of $70,660.

Neighborhood House, Inc. - $10,000
City funds would support consulting costs for the performance of an Agency Audit and related expenses.

Central Ohio Poison Center - $20,000.00
Funds will be used to provide operational support to address critical staff shortages (Medical Director and Poison Control Specialist positions).

Salvation Army - $16,000.00
Funds will be used to support emergency assistance to the (choice food pantry) at the East Main Choice Pantry, located at 966 E. Main St.

Communities-in-Schools - $15,000.00
Funds will be used to support two (2) Site Coordinators and program costs for the Diplomas Now initiative at Linden McKinley STEM Academy and at Mifflin High School.

Hilltop Christian Community Development Corporation Friends of the Hilltop - $9,660.00
Funds will support the Highland Youth Garden Program. Funding will be used for community harvest efforts, garden repairs and equipment storage and to provide educational support services through the Highland STEM Academy.

The legislation targets social service agencies that will provide help to address multiple human service needs. In addition, the City supports programs and activities so that the greater population is assured access to other community services. This funding will allow the process to continue these much needed services.

FISCAL IMPACT: Funds are allocated from the Neighborhood Initiatives Fund, the 2013 Hotel/Motel-Cultural Services Fund and the Emergency Human Services Capital Fund.
