To proclaim April 23 thru April 29, 2007 as Cover The Uninsured Week in the City of Columbus.

WHEREAS, nearly 45 million Americans do not have health care coverage; and
WHEREAS, eight out of 10 people who are uninsured are in working families; and
WHEREAS, there are 9 million children in America without health coverage; and
WHEREAS, uninsured children are twice as likely as insured children to miss out on needed medical care; and
WHEREAS, uninsured Americans live lives that are plagued by illness and die at a much younger than those who are covered; and
WHEREAS, as costs continue to rise, fewer individuals and families can afford to pay for coverage and fewer small businesses are able to provide coverage for their employees; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That we do recognize the urgency to solve one of America's greatest problems and believe that we should begin by ensuring that all of America's children are covered.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That we do hereby declare April 23-29, 2007 as Cover the Uninsured Week in the City of Columbus.
