To honor, recognize and celebrate the life of Columbus Police Reserve Officer Jerry L. Ward and to extend our sincerest condolences to his family and friends on the occasion of his passing, Saturday, May 15, 2010.
 
 
 
Body
 
WHEREAS, Columbus Police Reserve Officer Jerry L. Ward, age 66, passed away suddenly while providing security for the 18th annual Komen Columbus Race for the Cure, Saturday, May15, 2010; and
 
WHEREAS, Jerry L. Ward served as a Columbus Police Reserve Officer for over 20 years. He entered the Columbus Police Academy in 1970 and as a cadet was drafted into service during the riots at Ohio State University that spring. He continued serving as a reserve officer and would frequently take vacation from his day job to volunteer; and
 
WHEREAS, Jerry L. Ward was employed as a Protective Services Officer at Riverside Hospital since 1985; and  
 
WHEREAS, a resident of Blendon Township since 1980, Jerry L. Ward was an elected Blendon Township Trustee serving in his 25th year and planned to run for re-election next year; and
 
WHEREAS, Jerry L. Ward was honorably discharged from the United States Army for service served in 1971. He also retired from the Army National Guard of Ohio in 1966; and
 
WHEREAS, a dedicated public servant and consummate professional, Jerry L. Ward served his country and his community.  He left an indelible impression on the many people whose lives he touched, and he will be remembered for his many talents, his strong leadership, kindness and integrity. He will be sorely missed; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this Council does hereby honor, recognize and celebrate the life of Columbus Police Reserve Officer Jerry L. Ward and extend our sincerest condolences to his family and friends on the occasion of his passing.
