Explanation
Title
To recognize and congratulate The Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) for its continued efforts in leading the way for social justice and increased understanding of the Islamic faith.
Body
WHEREAS, CAIR was established in 1994 as a non-profit grassroots civil rights organization dedicated to presenting an Islamic perspective on issues of importance to the American public; and
WHEREAS, CAIR will celebrate its 6th Annual CAIR-Ohio Ramadan Iftar for people of other faiths to promote better understanding of Islam and Muslims; and
WHEREAS, Ramadan is a special time for Muslims everywhere; a time for reflection and greater spirituality; a time for sacrifice and generosity; and a time for devotion and self-control; and
WHEREAS, Recent CAIR research has shown that as many 25% of all Americans hold anti-Muslim views but this anti-Muslim prejudice decreases when people have access to accurate information about Islam and the American Muslim community; and
WHEREAS, CAIR is a leading advocate for social justice and mutual understanding for Muslims in Central Ohio, now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby recognize efforts of The Council of American-Islamic Relations to provide education and social justice on behalf of the Muslim community of Columbus and Central Ohio.
