To honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Mr. Richard Solove, and to extend our sincerest condolences to his family and friends on the occasion of his passing Friday, January 28, 2011.
 
Body
 
WHEREAS, Richard Solove was born in Columbus on April 3, 1925; and
 
WHEREAS, after graduating from South High School in 1943, Mr. Solove attended The Ohio State University, where he attained his Pharmacy degree in 1948; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Solove owned several drug stores in Columbus before achieving success in real estate development; and
 
WHEREAS, his success in business allowed Mr. Solove to pursue his passion for philanthropy, and he proceeded to build a legacy of generosity, particularly in the area of cancer research and treatment, that will continue to touch the lives of countless Central Ohioans for generations to come; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Solove helped establish the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital at Ohio State University, served as board chairman of the James Cancer Hospital's Research Institute Foundation, and donated $20 million to the cancer hospital, the largest private donation that Ohio State Medical Center had received; and
 
WHEREAS, Ohio State renamed its cancer hospital the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute in 1999, and awarded Mr. Solove an honorary doctorate a year later; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Solove is survived by his wife, LaDonna Solove; two sons, Jerome G. Solove of Powell and Dr. Greg Solove of New Mexico; one daughter, Melissa Houston of Washington, D.C.; a number of grandchildren; and innumerable friends, colleagues, and admirers; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this Council does hereby honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Mr. Richard Solove, and extends our sincerest condolences to his family and friends on the occasion of his passing Friday, January 28, 2011.
