To honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Robert Mills Sutphen and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends on the occasion of his passing, September 10, 2012.

WHEREAS, Robert Mills Sutphen was born on February 23, 1923 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Harry and Gail (Mills) Sutphen; and
WHEREAS, Robert is survived by four children: Daniel (Suzanne) Sutphen, Dareth Fowler, Diane (James) Holland, Drew (Judi) Sutphen - eight grandchildren, (Harry Sutphen, Hilary Davis, Hayley Sutphen, Dareth Elizabeth Fowler, James F. Holland III, Robert Corbin Holland, Sean Sutphen, Shelby Sutphen) - four great grandchildren (Madison Sutphen, Harrison Sutphen, Lilly Mae Davis, Janie Marie Davis) - and his brother Tom (Tamea) Sutphen, along with many nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, he was a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served his country during the Second World War; and
WHEREAS, Robert was devoted to his family and to his career in the family owned fire truck business, the Ohio-based Sutphen Corporation, which is the oldest continuously owned and operated fire apparatus manufacturer in the country; and
WHEREAS, his favorite moments were spent with family and friends, whether it was in Columbus, Ohio, Northern Michigan, or Boca Grande, Florida; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this council does hereby honor, recognize and celebrate the life of Robert Mills Sutphen and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends on the occasion of his passing,
September 10, 2012.
