To recognize Dorothy Cromartie for her life-long efforts toward developing a sense of community through her service to the Weinland Park neighborhood and the City of Columbus.

Body

WHEREAS, Dorothy Cromartie, born on October 27, 1911 has made tremendous contributions to community fabric of the Weinland Park neighborhood for nearly forty years; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cromartie has graciously donated her time, talent and resources toward quality community programs through her volunteer service on the University Area Commission, to the Godman Guild Association, as a cook feeding the homeless at the Faith Mission, as a UNICEF volunteer and as the founder of the first-ever Weinland Park Brownie troop; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cromartie has been a guiding light in our community and has exemplified the mission to minister to the material, intellectual, and spiritual needs of all; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cromartie has for many years been an active and enthusiastic member of First Congregational Church, which has also honored her life and legacy of love and service as a Sunday school teacher and for her service on the church's education committee; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cromartie has been a leader in bringing the community together and advocating for changes that ensure our citizens' most basic needs are being met; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cromartie has been a catalyst for change and a leader in the rebirth of Weinland Park, the new Weinland Park Elementary School and the renovation, redevelopment and reestablishment of community pride in one of Columbus' most treasured neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, of all of her achievements, even greater than carrying the Olympic torch, most important to Ms. Cromartie is her family that includes two daughters, one son, 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and countless friends who have benefited from her maternal love; and
