To recognize and congratulate The Simon Kenton Council of the Boy Scouts of America for their outstanding commitment and outreach to the youth of the City of Columbus and extend our best wishes for the 10th Annual Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award Banquet.

WHEREAS, The Simon Kenton Council of the Boy Scouts of America is the Columbus' foremost youth program of character development and vales based leadership training and works to bring Scouting to the inner-city, and;
WHEREAS, the Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award was established in 1978 in the name of the late civil rights leader and Executive Director of the National Urban League from 1961-1971, whose vision was to provide an opportunity for the less fortunate, and;
WHEREAS, The Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Awards Dinner, which  is entering its 10th  year in Columbus, will showcase the Scoutreach program of the Simon Kenton Council and the work it does serving young men in Urban and Rural parts of our council, and;
 
WHEREAS, The Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Awards honors outstanding citizens and organizations that have made a dramatic impact on the lives of young people in urban and rural communities, and;
WHEREAS, The Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Awards Dinner will raise funds necessary to provide a quality Scoutreach program to the young people residing in urban and rural areas of our council; now, therefore;
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS;
 
That this Council does hereby recognize and congratulate The Simon Kenton Council of the Boy Scouts of America for their outstanding commitment and outreach to the youth of the City of Columbus and extend our best wishes for the 10th Annual Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award Banquet.
